Usyk Hryhoriy Ivanovych

Judge of the Supreme Court and Chair of the High Council of Justice — the very body that is supposed to keep judicial integrity in check. Since January 2023, with a one-month break at the beginning of 2025, back in the seat.

Hryhoriy Usyk was born in 1962 in the Kyiv region, started out at an accounting college — and apparently learned to count well. Then — service in the Ministry of Internal Affairs (1984–1995), Kyiv Court of Appeal since 2002, and from November 2017 — the Supreme Court. In January 2023, the congress of judges inducted him into the High Council of Justice — and within two weeks he was already chairing it. His wife, according to the declaration, works modestly in a district administration's cultural department. Everything looks very respectable. Or does it?

Now a bit about the "urgent need for housing"

2006: Usyk privatizes an official apartment in Kyiv of 89 square meters. To make it seem as if the judge really had nowhere to live, according to the Center for Public Integrity, he transferred two of his own Kyiv apartments to his sons beforehand. Convenient, isn’t it? In 2009, he bought two plots in Hnidyn, where a house of about 230 m² was built, which in the 2015 declaration was strangely still "not put into operation." And journalists have dug up old records: once Usyk took money from a journalist in favor of the "Regional" MP Yuriy But — the very one who influenced judicial appointments. Coincidence? Already in the High Council of Justice, he defended the position for Maksym Pampura, who appeared in a corruption case related to former Supreme Court Chair Knyazyev.
