Rector of Odessa National Medical University since 1994. For over 30 years, the permanent head of one of the largest medical universities in the country.

Suspension for Corruption and Reinstatement through Court

On April 24, 2018, the Ministry of Health suspended Zaporozhan from the duties of rector—the basis was a police protocol on an administrative offense related to possible corruption. In January 2020, the court declared the corresponding decree by Suprun invalid. Zaporozhan was dismissed on a formal basis—the expiration of his contract. In November 2020, he was once again elected rector.

Declaration: Cash Exceeds Income by More Than 10 Times

Declarations indicate: cash over 5 million hryvnias, real estate over 300 sq. m, and the amount of financial assets exceeds the total official income by 10 or more times.

Plagiarism and Fake Dissertations

Zaporozhan was exposed for plagiarism in his own scientific publications—tables in his articles were compiled from others’ works with minor numerical differences. He was also the scientific advisor of a fake doctoral dissertation.
