The National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) is a coordinating body under the President of Ukraine responsible for forming and overseeing the implementation of state policy in the sphere of national security and defense. The main task of the NSDC is to coordinate the activities of executive authorities, military structures, law enforcement agencies, and special services in matters of protecting the state's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and constitutional order of Ukraine. The Council includes the President of Ukraine, the Prime Minister, ministers of the security bloc, heads of special services, and other officials.
The NSDC plays an important role in preparing strategic decisions regarding defense, international security, counterterrorism, cyber threats, economic and informational security of the state. The Council’s decisions are enacted by decrees of the President of Ukraine and are mandatory for authorities to implement. In conditions of military and political challenges, the NSDC ensures operational coordination among state structures, risk analysis, and development of measures for stability and protection of Ukraine's national interests.
