According to the police, losses in such cases range from 50 thousand to almost 70 million hryvnias. Most often suspects are accused of embezzling budget funds, abuse of official position, official forgery and negligence.
For such crimes the law provides for from 5 to 8 years of imprisonment. If the amounts are especially large or the actions were committed by an organized group, the punishment can reach 12 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Maksym Tsutskiridze emphasized that on the eve of winter, when communities are actively preparing their energy infrastructure for the heating season, such proceedings are under special control.
"We will monitor the completion of opened investigations especially closely and will promptly respond to new instances of abuse," he concluded.
Earlier, law enforcement exposed an organized group that, during the heating season, supplied communal institutions in Ukraine with poor-quality coal paid for with budget funds. The value of the contracts exceeded 9,1 million hryvnias.
