Killed a 6-year-old girl: a policewoman in Pryluky was sentenced

The police officer was sentenced to 8 years in prison for the accident in Pryluky, in which a six-year-old girl died. The court imposed the harshest punishment allowed by law on the defendant.

Today, 4 August, the Pryluky City Court of Chernihiv region found the National Police officer guilty of part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of traffic safety rules that caused the death of a victim). The court supported the position of the prosecutor's office and sentenced her to 8 years of imprisonment – the maximum term provided for by this article. In addition, she was deprived of the right to drive for 3 years. The court also granted civil claims and ordered the defendant to pay 6 million UAH as moral damages to the victims. The defendant admitted guilt only in part. The court took into account that at the time of the crime she was a police officer performing official duties, and did not establish circumstances that would mitigate or aggravate the punishment. The prosecutor's position The public accusation in court was supported by the First Deputy Prosecutor General Viktor Logachov together with the leadership and prosecutors of the Chernihiv regional prosecutor's office. “From the outset of the criminal proceedings, the prosecutor's office consistently defended a principled position – both regarding keeping the accused in custody and regarding imposing the maximum punishment. The collected and examined evidence in court fully confirmed her guilt and the direct causal link between the violations committed and the death of the six-year-old child,” he stressed. Logachov added that the status of a law enforcement officer does not exempt from responsibility – on the contrary, it entails an increased obligation to act legally and safely. Details of the Pryluky tragedy To recall, the deadly accident occurred on 10 December 2025 of the year near 11:44. The police officer was driving a service Mitsubishi Outlander and was rushing to a call regarding another accident. On Vyacheslava Chornovola Street in Pryluky, the car approached an uncontrolled pedestrian crossing at which a woman with her six-year-old daughter was crossing. With a posted speed limit of 40 km/h, the service car was moving at a speed of 51–55 km/h. The vehicle had its emergency lights on, but the siren was not activated. She did not slow down before the “zebra,” did not yield to pedestrians, and did not take timely measures to stop. Forensic examination confirmed that the police officer had the technical ability to avoid the collision if traffic rules were observed.

As a result of the collision, the six-year-old girl sustained severe injuries and died, and her mother was hospitalized with injuries of moderate severity. Note that the National Police reported the start of an internal investigation into the deadly accident in Pryluky. Those involved among the police officers were removed from duty.
