A social patrol will operate in Kyiv this winter: what its task is

In Kyiv, a social patrol will traditionally operate during the winter period to assist people without permanent housing and those who find themselves in difficult life circumstances. The mobile team will provide daily assistance and distribute free hot meals at three locations in the capital.

The relevant order was signed by Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko. Social patrolling in the capital has been operating since 2006. Traditionally, the mobile team operates from 1 December until 1 April. What the social patrol will do The mobile team will operate daily, including on weekends and holidays. Its members include a social worker, a driver, and a cook. The patrol will not only provide people with hot meals but also inform them about available social services and the possibility of receiving help at specialized facilities. Each day the social patrol will deliver 200 portions of hot meals. They will be distributed free of charge according to the following schedule: Prymiskyi Railway Station "Darnytsia", Pryvokzalna St., 1 - from 11:00 to 11:40; Kyiv-Volynskyi railway station - from 13:10 to 13:30; Central Railway Station, Vokzalna St., 7 - from 13:50 to 14:50. Who can receive assistance The social patrol’s assistance is intended for people without a permanent place of residence, those who have temporarily become homeless, and people who have found themselves in crisis life circumstances. At the same time, social patrolling is only one form of assistance. Kyiv operates a network of facilities where people without housing can get temporary overnight accommodation, meals, personal hygiene products, and the opportunity to take a shower. Specialists from the structural divisions of the House of Social Care also help with employment, document recovery, registration of residence or place of stay, and obtaining necessary social services. News context The capital could be in a difficult situation this winter due to potential strikes by the occupiers on Kyiv’s energy infrastructure. Currently, the capital of Ukraine is ahead of the regions in preparing for winter. Earlier, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that the capital has already completed 50 percent and more of the work provided for in the resilience plan. In particular, power units totaling 350 MW have been restored, and 1 gigawatts of additional thermal generation have been created.
