Parliamentary Folly: 8 Deputies Have No Roof Over Their Heads (infographic)

For most Ukrainians, a member of parliament subconsciously is associated with a person who is not poor. And electronic declarations usually confirm this stereotype. However, analysts of the project “Declarations” (Bihus.Info) managed to find 6 lawmakers who did not indicate any housing owned or used, and two more whose residences remained on occupied territories.

A new deputy from the “Oleksandr Liashko Radical Party” Valeriya Zaruzhko turned out to be homeless. Earlier she had her own business — a real estate agency, but six months ago she closed her sole proprietorship. At the same time, the deputy’s own declaration does not indicate any real estate. However, it does include two fur coats, 300 thousand hryvnias, 300 thousand dollars, and 50 thousand euros in cash.

Valeriya Zaruzhko’s deputy powers were acquired in 7 December 2017 year in connection with the premature termination of Andriy Artemenko’s mandate. The latter became famous for a year ago delivering to the newly elected U.S. president Donald Trump a draft agreement on a settlement of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, which, in particular, proposed leasing Crimea to Russia for 50-100 years. Later, at a prosecutor’s interrogation, Artemenko had the imprudence to admit that he holds Canadian citizenship, for which he was deprived of Ukrainian citizenship and, as a consequence, lost his deputy mandate.

A year without rainbow for 2016 the leader of the “National Corps” Andriy Biłecky (Andriy Bieletsky) showed that the deputy had no housing or car according to the declaration. However, in the newly submitted declaration for 2017 year, he already mentioned renting an apartment in Chaiki and using the party’s Chevrolet Suburban.

There is no real estate for Vadym Ivchenko either. However, the deputy regularly receives compensation for renting living space or a hotel room. Yet neither the specific housing nor the compensation is indicated in Ivchenko’s declarations. Nothing but land plots was declared by deputies Iryna Sysoienko from Samopomich, Volodymyr Solyar from the People’s Front, and Yuriy-Bohdan Shukhevych from the Radical Party.

It is unknown where the Kyiv-based deputy from the “Opposition Bloc” Andriy Kiselyov resides, his apartment and two houses being left in Donetsk. A homeless man in 2016 year after selling 250-square-meter Kyiv apartment also suddenly remained Ihor Shkyria, whose other real estate is located on the occupied territory.
