Former deputy to Pyshnyi at Oschadbank may be appointed a member of the NBU Council

The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy recommended appointing former deputy chairman of the board of Oschadbank Anatoliy Barsukov as a member of the NBU Council, writes EP.

This was reported on Telegram by the Committee chair Danylo Hetmantsev.

"The Committee has decided to recommend that the Verkhovna Rada appoint Anatoliy Barsukov a member of the Council of the National Bank of Ukraine," the lawmaker wrote.

As clarified by the Committee’s first deputy chair Yaroslav Zheleznyak, from April 2014 to 2021 Anatoliy Barsukov was deputy chairman of the board of the state-owned Oschadbank.

In 2014–2020 Oschadbank was headed by the current NBU chair Andriy Pyshnyi.

Zheleznyak added that 20 Committee members voted for the decision to recommend Barsukov’s appointment, and 2 abstained (including Zheleznyak).

According to the lawmaker, the Rada vote on the candidate is to take place this week.

As stated on the NBU website, the Council of the National Bank “is responsible for developing the main guidelines of monetary policy and exercises control over the implementation of monetary policy. In addition, it oversees the internal control system of the National Bank.”

The NBU Council consists of nine members:

four members appointed by the Verkhovna Rada;

four members appointed by the president;

the chair of the National Bank is a member of the Council by virtue of the office.

As noted on the NBU website, the NBU Council currently has 7 members: Bohdan Danylyshyn, Vasyl Furman, Mykola Kalenskyi, Ihor Veremii (by the president’s quota), Viktor Koziuk, Vasyl Horbal (by the Verkhovna Rada’s quota), Andriy Pyshnyi (as NBU chair).

At the meeting on 14 November 2019 members re-elected Bohdan Danylyshyn as chair of the Council for the second time.
