Zelensky commented on rumors about a possible replacement of the NBU head

President Volodymyr Zelensky commented on the information about a possible replacement of the head of the National Bank of Ukraine, Andriy Pishnyy. According to him, he did not initiate any steps to dismiss the head of the NBU.

Volodymyr Zelensky stated that he did not take steps to replace the head of the National Bank of Ukraine, Andriy Pishnyy. "I did not initiate any steps regarding his replacement. This is an independent institution. Pishnyy is the head of the National Bank," the president said during a Q&A with journalists. Pishnyy has complicated relations with the government and parliamentarians. According to Zelensky, the head of the NBU has difficult relations with the government and parliamentary structures. He emphasized that this is not only about the current government but generally about disagreements between the positions of the National Bank and government bodies. "Because the position of the National Bank under him and the position of the Ministry of Finance are very different on many issues," the president noted. At the same time, the president said he will not participate in facilitating dialogue between these institutions. Zelensky urged focusing on stability. According to the president, this stance is tied to the emergence of information campaigns which, in his view, may aim to influence the situation. "But now, when various information campaigns have already begun, aiming to influence something, I will not participate in building dialogue between these institutions," Zelensky said. He urged both sides to focus on the stability of the state, not on information campaigns.

Context of Zelensky’s statement: Recall that 19 in August, NABU and SAP published recordings exposing a criminal organization involved officials of the Office of the President, current and former members of Parliament. After the publication of the investigation, the Verkhovna Rada summoned the head of the NBU, Andriy Pishnyy, to report on the situation around the state-owned Sense Bank. The Ministry of Finance of Ukraine now has a clear task to intensify the process of selling the nationalized Sense Bank. All proceeds will be directed to meet the needs of the Armed Forces.
