Previously, Derkach headed the Anti-Corruption Prevention Department at the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP) and worked within UN structures, and since February 2023 he supervised the transport sector within the government. At the end of July 2026, he received a significant promotion, becoming the First Deputy Minister of Recovery, Infrastructure, and Transport of Ukraine.

While the government official publicly reports on 50 successful reform steps and a "transport visa-free regime" with the EU, his reputation has been overshadowed by a family-tender scandal

In August 2026, journalists from the "Black Schemes" and "Recovery Agent" projects published an investigation revealing that Derkach included in his official declaration, as a family member, a co-owner of a private certification center. Investigators point out a direct conflict of interest, since the Ministry of Infrastructure under Derkach’s leadership is currently actively digitizing the vehicle certification market. Activists sent a detailed appeal to the relevant authority demanding an inquiry into why a closed monopoly linked to the close circle of the main anti-corruption fighter is being created under the cover of UNDP grants and ministry tenders. Simultaneously, the official constantly has to publicly dispel associations due to sharing a surname with the controversial former MP fugitive Andriy Derkach, who was sentenced in absentia to 15 years for high treason by the High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) in July 2026.
