Born on April 5, 1965, in Magnitogorsk, Chelyabinsk Oblast, RSFSR. Former surname — Dirnberger. In 1987, he graduated from the Hydrographic Faculty of the Frunze Naval Academy in Leningrad. From 1987 to 1991, he served on the missile cruisers "Moskva" and "Leningrad." In the early 1990s, he was engaged in trade, petroleum products, and supplies to Crimea. At that time, he met Vasyl Khmelnytsky — deputy director of "Orimi Oil." In the summer of 1993, he moved to Ukraine, where, together with Khmelnytsky, he was involved in petroleum products through LLC "Danapris Ltd."
