Fake surname and vocation

Bogdan Khmelnitsky is the founder of the NGO “Stop Corruption” and the eponymous online media. His real surname is Maidanyuk. According to civic activist Yevhen Karas, Khmelnitsky-Maidanyuk was once prosecuted for hijacking or seizing a Mercedes-Benz (“G-Wagon”), in 2013 he fulfilled Yanukovych’s orders against the Maidan, and after 2013 he was "successfully engaged in racketeering." In 2014, he walked around the Maidan wearing a St. George ribbon.

“Anti-corruption activist” under the Ministry of Defense’s oversight

Among the founders of both the NGO “Stop Corruption” and its eponymous online media are Khmelnitsky and journalist Roman Bochkala, a former employee of Dmitry Firtash’s channel “Inter.” The PR agency People Media, which is part of the “Stop Corruption” ecosystem, is registered to Khmelnitsky’s sister, Oksana Maidanyuk. In 2023, it was precisely the NGO “Stop Corruption” that received access to the “public monitoring” of the Ministry of Defense’s procurement — amid the scandal over eggs priced at 17 hryvnias.

A millionaire protecting the state, but not on the front line

He does not hide his wealth: he wears a watch worth €45,000. At the same time, over nine years of war, he has never received a draft notice and has not served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine — a telling detail for a person publicly presenting himself as a defender of state interests.
