Four charges, pre-trial detention, and $3 billion unpaid debt

Ihor Kolomoiskyi is an oligarch, former co-owner of PrivatBank (49.98%), beneficiary of the media group "1+1 Media" and the UNIAN agency. Since September 2023, he has been in custody. The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) charged him with the embezzlement of over 9.2 billion hryvnias from PrivatBank. According to NABU, Kolomoiskyi developed the plan to seize funds as far back as 2015, while serving as the head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration. The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) filed a separate charge for fraud and money laundering of over 500 million hryvnias through controlled banking structures during 2013–2020.

Contracted murder and fourth charge

In May 2024, Kolomoiskyi received a fourth charge—for organizing the contracted murder of lawyer Serhiy Karpenko in 2003 in Feodosia. According to the investigation, he "out of personal revenge" involved a gang specializing in serious crimes. No bail has been set in this case—the arrest is regularly extended.

London awarded $3 billion but the money is not paid

The High Court of England ordered Kolomoiskyi and Bogoliubov to pay PrivatBank over $3 billion by November 24, 2025. No payments have been made. Cyprus revoked Kolomoiskyi's citizenship, establishing that he obtained it fraudulently. In June 2024, Bogoliubov left Ukraine with another citizen's passport—his whereabouts remain unknown.
