Since 2008 — founder and CEO of the Metropolia group of companies (solar, wind, and bioenergy). Candidate for the Verkhovna Rada from "Servant of the People" in constituency No. 143 in the 2019 elections — lost. At the time of the 2019 elections, he was under investigation by law enforcement agencies on suspicion of tax evasion on an especially large scale, forgery of documents, concluding fictitious contracts, and illegal appropriation of budget funds on an especially large scale.

Criminal proceedings regarding business and lobbying by Khmelnytskyi

Media characterized Kurtev as the "overseer of the energy business" for the well-known oligarch Vasyl Khmelnytskyi. Khmelnytskyi actively lobbied his candidacy for the position of Deputy Minister of Energy after the 2019 elections. Business entities of the Metropolia group are involved in several criminal proceedings, but Kurtev himself is not implicated in them.
