From the Law Enforcement Committee to the Ministry of Internal Affairs instead of Avakov

Denys Anatoliyovych Monastyrskyi is a lawyer, People's Deputy of the IX convocation from Servant of the People, Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine (July 2021 – January 2023), head of the Dynamo Sports Society of Ukraine.

In 2019, he was elected as a deputy from Servant of the People, No. 19, and headed the Committee on Law Enforcement Activities. On July 16, 2021, he was appointed Minister of Internal Affairs — receiving 271 votes in favor. In September 2022, he participated in a large-scale prisoner exchange operation — 215 Ukrainian defenders returned home, including over 100 Azov fighters.

"This is it" — first to report the invasion

On February 24, 2022, Monastyrskyi was the first to report to Zelensky: "Considering that attacks are occurring in several locations simultaneously, this is it," confirming the start of Russia's full-scale invasion.

Death in Brovary

On January 18, 2023, at 8:20 a.m., an Airbus H225 Super Puma helicopter en route to Izyum crashed in a residential area of Brovary. The minister, first deputy Yevhen Yenin, Secretary of State Yuriy Lubkovych, and others — a total of 14 people — died. He was buried on January 21 at Baikove Cemetery in Kyiv.
