First Deputy Minister of Health

Iryna Volodymyrivna Mykychak — First Deputy Minister of Health (since March 2020), previously headed the Department of Health of the Lviv Regional State Administration (2017–2019), honored doctor of Ukraine.

Scandal and dismissal from Lviv Regional State Administration

While serving as head of the health department of the Lviv RSA, Mykychak was involved in a scandal that led to her dismissal: the RSA leadership believed that she overstepped her authority by submitting draft decisions to the Lviv Regional Council under her own signature and then withdrawing them. According to ZAXID.net, Mykychak was the initiator of the liquidation of the Lviv Regional Children's Clinical Hospital Okhmatdyt — an institution she had previously managed.

Husband's family business

Her husband, Bohdan Mykychak, is a co-founder of PrJSC “Iroks” (owning 10.6% of the capital, engaged in mediation in trade of various goods) and the chief physician of a dental clinic in Lviv. The family keeps 102 thousand UAH, 57 thousand EUR, and 125 thousand USD in bank accounts.

Appointment to the Ministry of Health after a failed experience

Despite the scandal at the Lviv RSA, in March 2020 the Shmyhal Cabinet appointed Mykychak as First Deputy Minister of Health — the second person in the Ministry of Health during the COVID-19 pandemic, without a public explanation as to why a candidate with a controversial background was chosen for a key position during a crisis period.
