Twice Minister of Culture, “voice of Maidan” with NACP prescriptions

Actor, People's Artist, moderator of the stage at both Maidans. Minister of Culture in the Yatsenyuk government (2014) under the Maidan quota and in the Groysman government (2016–2019); in 2019 was No. 5 on the list of the “Ukrainian Strategy of Groysman” but did not enter the Parliament. Since 2022, fought as part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Kyiv, Mykolaiv, and Kherson regions; since 2023 — head of the Shevchenko Committee, and from 2024 — General Director of the Franko Theater.

NACP prescriptions and “enemies of the press”

In 2018, the NACP issued a prescription to Nyshchuk for inaction regarding conflict of interest issues in structures subordinate to the Ministry of Culture; in 2019, he was summoned for explanations about failing to comply with the agency’s requirements. At the same time, the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine included the minister in the anti-rating of “enemies of press reform” for obstructing the privatization of publications, including the “Crimean Lantern.” During his second term, controversy arose over the illegal obtaining of permits for construction on land designated as heritage protection.

“Genetic” statement

In 2016, on the ICTV air, he spoke about the “genetics” of residents of eastern and southern Ukraine, which caused a scandal; he apologized, did not resign, blaming Russian propaganda for stirring up the topic.
