The overseer of Chernivtsi
Vasyl Prodan’s political activities and business connections have repeatedly been accompanied by high-profile criminal investigations, and for a long time, local Chernivtsi media called him the "overseer" of the city. In June 2026, law enforcement officers issued Prodan a suspicion due to a criminal offense related to illegal crossing of the state border on the basis of inappropriate documents during a several-day trip to Romania. Already in September 2026, the official became a subject of a new large-scale investigation by the State Bureau of Investigations (SBI): law enforcement revealed a scheme to withdraw millions of hryvnias from the enterprise he headed, "Ukrvydavpoligrafiya," through the conclusion of disadvantageous contracts with private companies. During searches, mobile phones were seized from the subject, and the investigation is examining the probable systemic damage to state printing houses.
