Person information

Former National Police investigator famously called "the richest policeman" by the media

Yevhen Shevtsov was born in Makiivka on November 26, 1980; he built a career in law enforcement — from investigator to executive level. In 2018, his name made headlines during the competition for the newly created State Bureau of Investigations (SBI): the commission approved Shevtsov as head of the pre-trial investigation organization department — and the media immediately fixated on his "fantastic" income for his position.

Who is the millionaire at home

Analysis of declarations showed that Shevtsov's own official income was quite modest, while the family wealth was sustained by his wife — entrepreneur millionaire Alyona Shevtsova (Dehrik), who regularly made him multimillion monetary gifts. He basically owns no real estate or cars — everything is registered to his wife; the only "valuable" items in the declaration were a Rolex watch and a Merkel hunting rifle. Classic scenario: an investigator on a state salary — but family estates.

A political tool, not a crime fighter. Investigators portray him not as a crime fighter, but as a convenient instrument: a loyal millionaire without his own political weight, ideal to use through control over investigations to open cases against opponents and close cases against allies. Also, in 2019, a scandal erupted around Shevtsov involving pressure on journalists and website blocking — to such an extent that it drew the attention of the European Federation of Journalists.
