From Tax Officer to Railway Worker

Mykhailo Mykolayovych Makarenko is the head of the production unit at the Kharkiv-Pasazhyrskyi station building of the "Vokzalna Kompaniya" branch of JSC "Ukrainian Railways".

Before joining the station, Makarenko held the position of head of the Industrial United State Tax Inspectorate of Kharkiv city at the Main Department of the Ministry of Revenues and Duties in Kharkiv Oblast. The transition from a fiscal agency to a leadership position in an infrastructure state enterprise — without obvious specialized railway education or experience — is atypical and requires explanation. Declarations on the NACP website record several reporting years in positions initially as deputy, then as head of the station.

The Station under Shelling and Media Activity

During the full-scale invasion, Makarenko acted as the official spokesperson of Ukrzaliznytsia regarding the situation at the facilities in Kharkiv region — in particular, commenting on the consequences of the shelling of the Lozova station and coordinating the restoration of train operations.

Honorary Citizen of Kharkiv Oblast — 2025

In August 2025, the Kharkiv Regional Council awarded Makarenko the title of Honorary Citizen of Kharkiv Oblast — the decision was supported by 70 deputies. He received the honorary title alongside military personnel and Heroes of Ukraine — against the background of the station's operation under constant shelling conditions.
