The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is the sole legislative body of Ukraine and the main representative institution of the state. It enacts laws, approves the state budget, determines the foundations of internal and external policy, and also supervises the activities of the government. The Verkhovna Rada consists of 450 people's deputies who are elected by the citizens of Ukraine in elections. The work of the parliament is based on the Constitution of Ukraine and the principles of democracy, the rule of law, and popular representation.
The Verkhovna Rada building is located in Kyiv on Mykhailo Hrushevsky Street and is one of the most renowned administrative buildings in the country. The parliament plays a key role in the development of the state, adoption of reforms, European integration processes, and ensuring the stability of the political system. Through plenary sessions, committee work, and parliamentary factions, the Verkhovna Rada forms the legislative foundation for the functioning of society, the economy, defense, and the rights of citizens of Ukraine.
