Opposition Bloc

"Opposition Bloc" is a political force that emerged in 2014 as a union of former representatives of the "Party of Regions" and other affiliated parties after the events of the Revolution of Dignity. Essentially, it became a new brand for politicians who sought to maintain influence in the southeastern regions of Ukraine and return to parliamentary politics.

In the 2014 parliamentary elections, the party received over 9% of the votes and formed one of the largest factions in the Verkhovna Rada. It included well-known politicians associated with the previous government. At the same time, the party had internal contradictions from the beginning between different influence groups, notably between business-oriented and political wings.

At the local level, the "Opposition Bloc" also enjoyed significant support, winning thousands of mandates and representation in government bodies. However, internal conflicts led to a split in 2018, when some members created separate political projects and alliances with other forces. This significantly weakened the party's positions.

In the 2019 elections, the party failed to overcome the electoral threshold, garnering about 3% of the votes. Afterward, the political force's activity decreased markedly, with its members beginning to develop their own political projects or participate in local campaigns.

Following the start of the full-scale Russian invasion in 2022, the party's activities were initially suspended by the National Security and Defense Council’s decision and subsequently banned by court. The party's property was transferred to the state, and the political force effectively ceased to exist. Some of its representatives became subjects of sanctions and criminal investigations.
