The State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES) is a central executive authority responsible for implementing state policy in the areas of civil protection, fire safety, emergency response, and rescue operations. The primary task of the service is to protect the population and territories from natural, technological, and military emergencies, as well as to organize operational response in case of danger. SES operates in accordance with Ukrainian legislation and international standards in the field of safety and civil protection.
The SES's powers include conducting emergency rescue operations, firefighting, population evacuation, demining territories, and mitigating the consequences of natural disasters and technological accidents. The service ensures the functioning of alert systems, monitors compliance with fire and industrial safety regulations, and conducts preventive and informational work among the population. SES rescuers participate in humanitarian operations and cooperate with international organizations in emergency response.
In current conditions, the SES plays a vital role in ensuring citizen safety, protecting critical infrastructure, and maintaining the state's readiness to respond to emergencies. The service's activities are aimed at preserving human life, minimizing the impact of hazardous events, and enhancing the level of civil protection in Ukraine.
