Longtime "master" of Motor Sich, Hero of Ukraine with a Russian passport — on trial for attempting to transfer 128 aircraft engines to the Russian Federation

Legend of the Zaporizhzhia aviation industry (born 1938), Doctor of Technical Sciences, Hero of Ukraine, chief designer of helicopter technology; for decades headed and was co-owner of JSC Motor Sich — one of the largest aircraft engine manufacturers in Europe. Former MP of several convocations (Party of Regions, then non-factional). Built a business empire: Motor-Bank, Motor-Garant, Vinnytsia Aviation Plant, Zolota Aystra, and dozens of other assets.

Detention and charges

On October 22, 2022, the Security Service of Ukraine detained Boguslayev. According to the investigation, he is accused of intending to transfer 128 Motor Sich engines worth over $62 million to the aggressor state through a foreign legal entity, of which 7 (worth $3.4 million) have already been delivered to illegal armed formations in the occupied territory. He is charged with aiding the aggressor state, participating in a terrorist organization, and obstructing the activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He faces up to 15 years in prison. The "Scheme" project established that since the early 2000s he has held Russian citizenship and owns real estate in Moscow — the presence of a Russian passport was confirmed in court by his defense.

Confiscation and prolonged detention

On April 18, 2024, the High Anti-Corruption Court satisfied the Ministry of Justice's claim — Boguslayev's (and his partner Kononenko's) assets were seized for the benefit of the state; Motor Sich itself was transferred to state ownership. His detention was extended over 20 times; in October 2025, the court set a record bail of UAH 908 million.
