Hurskyi's Unblemished Captaincy Hit a Severe Storm in September 2026
A loud corruption scandal erupted around his agency. Member of Parliament Anna Skorokhod publicly accused the senior official of creating large-scale corruption schemes: allegedly, the "shadow fee" for a spot in the queue to enter ships on the Danube soared to an astronomical 30–50 thousand dollars per vessel, and certificates for seafarers increased in price by 3–5 thousand. However, the most striking detail in this story was the overseas trip: according to the MP, Hurskyi regularly traveled on budget funds to fictitious business trips to Poland to "support his muse for Instagram." The official called all accusations an attack on his reputation but, to save face, requested suspension himself. On September 9, 2026, the Cabinet officially suspended Hurskyi from his position and initiated disciplinary proceedings. Now, the Commission on the Higher Civil Service Corps has until October 23 to determine whose interests were truly protected by the agency's chief captain.
