Law "for Lutsenko"
Yuriy Vitaliyovych Lutsenko — politician, Minister of Internal Affairs (2005–2006, 2007–2010), People's Deputy of the IV, VI, and VIII convocations, Prosecutor General of Ukraine (May 2016 — August 2019).
Even before the vote, the Verkhovna Rada approved legislative changes allowing a person without a legal education to hold the office of Prosecutor General and regulated the reform of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
Imprisonment under Yanukovych and pardon
In 2010, Lutsenko was arrested on corruption charges; in 2012, he was sentenced to 4 years imprisonment with property confiscation. In 2013, Yanukovych issued a decree pardoning him.
Son's wedding using official prosecutor's office vehicles
In September 2017, the celebration of Prosecutor General Lutsenko's son Oleksandr’s wedding was served by official vehicles of the Prosecutor General’s Office, with active participation in organizing the event by employees of the State Guard Department.
Father-in-law's luxury house and airport conflict
The scandal over the "father-in-law’s luxury house" of 859 sq. m near Kyiv — inspections did not find violations. In 2009, a conflict involving Lutsenko’s son took place at Frankfurt airport; he was detained by the police. Lutsenko intervened as the father; both were detained — the incident was closed as a "domestic dispute" with an official police apology.
DBR criminal proceeding on gambling business
The State Bureau of Investigation registered a criminal proceeding upon the statement of a current MP regarding possible abuse of power by Lutsenko via facilitating illegal gambling activities in prior collusion with others. According to media reports, the complainant was the head of the "Servant of the People" faction, David Arakhamia.
Dismissal and subsequent career
On August 29, 2019, the Verkhovna Rada dismissed Lutsenko from the office of Prosecutor General — 317 votes "for." Currently, he is a TV host on Channel 5 and a member of "European Solidarity."
