Reformist Prosecutor General, dismissed by a vote of no confidence for refusing to close cases against Poroshenko

Deputy Minister of Justice (2014), member of the NAPC (2016–2017), Deputy Head of the Office of the President under Zelensky (2019). From August 29, 2019 to March 5, 2020 — Prosecutor General of Ukraine. Among achievements: activation of PrivatBank cases, initiation of 3,000 cases for illegal logging, holding owners of 12 banks accountable for withdrawing 13 billion UAH offshore, investigation of torture of citizens by law enforcement, collection of evidence of Russian aggression for international courts.

Fake declaration as a provocation

In August 2016, someone posted a forged declaration in Ryaboshapka’s name with 20 million UAH from a fictitious company; the investigation confirmed the forgery. In early 2020, media published information about his declaration — the subsequent investigation also confirmed their inaccuracy. In March 2020, parliament expressed a vote of no confidence; according to broad media and international partners’ assessment, the real reason was Ryaboshapka’s refusal to follow political orders from the Presidential Office and to close cases against Poroshenko. No criminal proceedings have been initiated against him; currently an independent legal expert and commentator.
